原鶴温泉「泰泉閣」には「ジャングル風呂」があります。ジャングル風呂は日本の高度経済成長期に全国各地のホテルに作られ海外旅行に行かなくても気軽にトロピカル気分に浸りつつ温泉も楽しめる国民的な行楽の一つとして大変人気を博しました。泰泉閣のジャングル風呂はヴィンテージな鉄骨がささえる屋根の下でガジュマルの大木が気根を垂らし、日本の風呂文化ならではの庭園景観を作り出しています。ヘンリー・ムーアにインスパイアされた抽象彫刻、ミッドセンチュリーモダンデザインのタイルやレリーフ壁画、ル・コルビジェやフランク・ロイド・ライトの建築デザインの影響などが随所に見られ、２０世紀半ばの貴重な芸術遺産になっています。昭和３０年代に全国各地につくられたジャングル風呂はもはや泰泉閣にしか残されていません。どうか末永く保存してほしいと思います。ホテル側のご好意により清掃時間に撮影させていただきました。
