旧藏内邸は明治時代から昭和前期まで福岡県筑豊地方を中心に炭鉱を所有し、また大分県などで錫や金の鉱山も経営した藏内一族の本家住宅です。庭園は明治時代39年頃に応接間などとともに造営され、大正５年の大増築の際に枯流れの庭や坪庭が作られました。また隣接する貴船神社と鳥居・参道・石橋なども地域一体型で整備、さらに邸から水田を挟んで西に200mほど離れた丘陵地の斜面につくられた蔵内三代の銅像広場にはエジプト風の意匠を持つ珍しい台座が残されています。

主庭は池泉回遊式で近くの城井川から用水路で水を引き入れています。水は邸の下に地下用水路としてめぐらされ、坪庭の手水や生活用水など様々な用途で使うことができるように複数の場所に水汲み場がつくられています。主庭は大広間・茶室・応接間の３つのポイントから眺めることを意識して作られています。池は深く掘られ護岸石組みは重層的で変化に富み、鶴首石などがアクセントとなっています。池には大きな亀島があり護岸には亀頭石が見られます。島には西と東に二方向から切石の八ツ橋と二連の眼鏡橋が架けられ、かっては人々が回遊して池の風景を楽しんでいました。庭には美しい樹形の松が多く見られますが、梅も多く見られます。これは蔵内家が古代の中国大陸文化に傾倒していたためです。庭内の石灯籠や縁先手水鉢は蔵内家の財力を物語るように巨大です。また庭は東側の山並みを借景としており山の端からのぼる月を庭とともに愛でていました。隣接する貴船神社の社殿を景物の一つとして取り込んでいる事もこの庭の特徴の一つです。主庭の池に連続し、西北の隅には枯流れの庭があり、大広間の北面、および来客用風呂脱衣場からのぞめるようになっています。この他にも宝蔵の北側に北山杉？に似た針葉樹を植えた裏庭が一つ（残念ながらこの庭の手水鉢は台石を残して消失しています）、宝蔵の東側で生活棟と来客棟にはさまれた場所にモダンな幾何学形の切石を使った坪庭が一つ、さらに大玄関裏の雪隠の西側に手水としてつかえる水汲み場を設けて飛び石のそばにアイドルのように可愛い阿形の狛犬を置いた露地のような坪庭が一つ、以上主庭以外に計４庭があります。どの庭も風情が異なりたいへん個性的です。中でも幾何学形の切石を用いた坪庭は２１世紀の現在の感覚で見てもアヴァンギャルドなのですが、そこに据えられた石灯籠はとても伝統的なものばかりで火袋には中国の吉兆の印であるコウモリが透し彫りされるなど、最先端の西洋芸術と東洋古来の伝統が並立しており、たいへん興味深いものとなっています。またこの坪庭を囲むガラス障子の板ガラスには一枚一枚磨りガラスの白い枠が施されており大変モダンな印象です。みなさんお気に入りの坪庭を見つけてください。また、大玄関前の空間は表庭として位置づけられ松のように仕立てられたビャクシンがシンボルツリーとなっています。その表庭と大和塀をはさんで北側、主庭から見ると東側には高さ５ｍはあろうかと思える巨大な石の高灯籠がそびえる広場があり、現在「菜園」と呼ばれています。ここは巨大なテントを張り大人数を招待しての食事会などを催すスペースとして活用されていました。この菜園と主庭の中間に昔は草庵茶室と露地があったそうですが現在は失われ石庭風に庭石が並べられています。

最後に、今回は写真の枚数の関係で掲載できませんでしたが、蔵内邸の北側に隣接する「貴船神社」の御社殿および城井川から続く参道や石橋、また西に２００ｍほど離れた丘陵地にある蔵内三代の銅像広場に残されている台座や石垣なども是非見学してください。蔵内邸だけでなく蔵内家が周辺の土地すべてをランドスケープデザインしていた規模の大きさに驚かされるとともに、あなたは蔵内家の財力のみならずその知識の深さやセンスのユニークさに驚かされるに違いありません。

The former Kurauchi residence is the home of the Kurauchi family, who owned coal mines mainly in the Chikuho region of Fukuoka prefecture from the Meiji era to the early Showa period, and also ran tin and gold mines in Oita prefecture. The main building, drawing room and garden were built in 1897, and at the same time as the establishment of Kurauchi Mining Co., Ltd. in 1918, the main entrance, tea room, and large hall were greatly expanded facing the pond garden.

It should be noted that the torii gate, approach, and stone bridge of Kifune Shrine, which is adjacent to the mansion, are also integrated in the area. A bronze statue square of the third generation of Kurauchi was built in the clan's graveyard on the slope of the hills about 200 m west of the mansion across Ricefield, and it was made several years earlier than the great discovery of King Tutankhamen in the century. A rare pedestal with a design is left. (Unfortunately, the three statues disappeared due to metal contributions at the end of World War II.) That fact is evidence that the international and cultural value of the people of the Kurauchi family was by far the highest.

The main garden is the Chisenkaiyushiki garden, which walks around the pond, and water is drawn from a nearby river by an aqueduct. The water drawn from the river is circulated under the mansion as an underground irrigation canal, and water fetching places are created in many places so that it can be used not only for ponds but also for various purposes such as hand water in Tsubo-niwa and domestic water. I am. There are three main point views of the main garden: the hall, the tea room, and the drawing room. The pond is deeply dug and the revetment stonework is multi-layered and varied. There is a large Kamejima in the pond, and Yatsuhashi, a cut stone, and two a-bridges are built from two directions, west and east. There are many beautiful tree-shaped pine trees in the garden, but there are also many plum trees. The reason why there are many plums is that the Kurauchi family was devoted to ancient Chinese culture. The stone lanterns and the water bowls on the play in the garden are huge and overwhelming, as if to tell the financial strength of the Kurauchi family. In addition, the garden has a borrowed view of the mountains on the east side, and I loved the moon rising from the edge of the mountain together with the garden. One of the features of this garden is that it incorporates the shrine of the adjacent Kifune Shrine as one of the highlights. There is a dry garden in the north corner, which is continuous with the pond in the main garden, and it is attached to the dressing room of the guest bath. In addition, there is a backyard with coniferous trees next to the warehouse on the north side, a tsubo-niwa with modern geometric cut stones between the living building and the guest building, and a traditional garden near the main entrance. There is one open-air style tsubo-niwa, and each tsubo-niwa has a different atmosphere and is very unique. Among them, Tsubo-niwa, which uses geometrically shaped cut stones, is even an avant-garde in the current sense of the 21st century, but the stone lanterns installed there are traditional and the fire bag is a sign of Chinese auspiciousness. A bat is carved through, and the state-of-the-art Western art of the time and ancient traditions stand side by side, making it very interesting. In addition, the glass of the glass shoji that surrounds this tsubo-niwa is very modern with a white frame of frosted glass one by one.
