「旧福田家住宅」佐賀市・ "Old Fukuda residence" Saga-city

佐賀市の旧市街・柳町に残された古い建物７棟で構成される「佐賀歴史民俗館」の一つ。大正７年(1918)に建てられた近代和風住宅。書院風の立派な床の間や見事な欄間彫刻、そして電話室などの近代的な施設、またステンドグラスが美しい洋室を備えている。後の大正１５年(1926)に茶室と連絡通路が増築された。数寄屋の設えの茶室は大変凝った作り。興味深いのは洋式の水屋を備えていること。連絡通路はあえて斜めに作られ奥に行くほど狭くなり遠近法を駆使している。母屋、茶室ともいたるところに建築技術の粋を集めた見どころ満載の住宅。全体的に品格高い設え。保存状態も大変良い。庭園は母屋に面した主庭に耳納連山より分解して運んだ巨石が置かれさすがに財力を誇っているが、これはこの時代の佐賀市を含む筑後地方ではよく見られた特徴的な庭園様式で、この福田家庭園の石はまだ小さい方。手水の設えも凝っている。日本庭園には珍しく薔薇が植えられている。その他、洋室に面した坪庭にも大立石があり目をひく。さらに、その奥に続く路地庭には美しい延段がある。棕櫚が植えられた坪庭も。玄関前の腰掛け待ちあいは茶室用ではなく、客人の運転手や付き人のための喫煙休憩スペースとのこと。

"Former Fukuda residence" Saga-city

One of the "The Saga City Cultural Museum" that consists of seven old buildings left in the old city of Yanagi, Saga City.

Modern Japanese-style houses built by entrepreneurs of Saga City from 1918 to 1926. Traditional style of Japanese architecture is splendid. It also mixes western architectural styles such as stained glass. A giant stone is placed in the garden and symbolizes the financial strength of the owner of this house. The tea house is a beautiful interior that is very tired with the traditional Sukiya style.
