"Bokura Garden”Shimane pref.
This garden was built in the Genroku period (1700s), but it has been modified since the 1800s to incorporate the Izumo style.
Throughout the Edo period, the Bokura family brought great prosperity to the Izumo region of the Matsue domain as one of the representative families that made a living in ``tatara iron manufacturing.'' The Bokura family, along with the Ihara family and others, served as one of the main camps (accommodations) for the feudal lord's inspections of the territory.
Particularly during the era of the seventh feudal lord, Matsudaira Fumai, it became common to show hospitality to the feudal lord through tea ceremonies, so many honjin gardens are equipped with a tea room.
The Bokura family lost their mansion, so the details are unknown, but placing a large stone lantern in the center of the garden is a characteristic of Izumo style gardens, and the white sand stepping stones in front of the pond are clearly Izumo style, and the Reihai stone is also possible that it was the Kagooki stone of the feudal lord. It is highly likely that the gourd-shaped ensaki water basin and the drum bridge over the pond were also added around this time. Gardens have the property of changing with the times.
