"Matsue History Museum" Shimane Prefecture
The Matsue History Museum is a museum where you can learn about the history of the castle town of Matsue, built in the style of a retainer's residence along the moat to the east of Matsue Castle. Although it looks like wood at first glance, it is made of reinforced concrete.
If you use the Japanese sweets tea shop "Kiharu" inside the museum, you can enter for free (there is a fee to view the exhibitions). ``Kiharu'' is a system where we look at and order samples of beautiful Japanese sweets that can only be tasted at tea parties, so even people who are not familiar with Japanese sweets can have a chance to try them. We can not only taste the Japanese sweets, but also have the fun of choosing which one to have.
This Japanese sweets tea shop is perfect for garden fans, as you can see the Izumo style garden from the open glass windows of the large tatami-matted hall.
Right next door is the ``Den Rikyu Tea Room,'' which you can tour for free. This tea room was originally dismantled and preserved by the Ohashi family, the chief retainers of the Matsue clan, and is now on display. This tea room is about 400 years old, and legend has it that Sen no Rikyu was involved in it.
This is the place to take a break while sightseeing in Matsue!
