「仙巌園 」鹿児島県 / “Sengan en” Kagoshima pref.

仙巌園は１６５８年から営まれる薩摩藩島津家の別邸で、代々の当主が改築を重ね現在の姿となった。その庭園は目の前の錦江湾に浮かぶ桜島の雄大な景色を借景にしている。御殿の上座敷に面して池泉庭が作られている他、広大な敷地の随所に巨大な石燈篭や人工の滝などが設けられている。庭園をくまなく巡り尚古集成館（しょうこしゅうせいかん）など併設の博物館もあわせて見学するとかなりの時間を要するのでゆとりを持って訪問しよう。

"Sengakuen" Kagoshima Prefecture

Sengakuen is a villa of the Shimazu clan of the Satsuma domain that has been in operation since 1658, and has undergone repeated renovations by successive heads of the family to reach its current appearance. The garden makes use of the magnificent view of Sakurajima floating in Kinko Bay in front of it. In addition to the pond garden facing the upper room of the palace, there are huge stone lanterns and artificial waterfalls scattered throughout the vast grounds. It will take quite a bit of time to tour the garden and also visit the attached museums such as the Shoko Shuseikan, so be sure to allow yourself plenty of time when visiting.
