“Henjo-in garden” Kurume city,Fukuoka pref.

“Henjo-in garden”遍照院庭園 was donated by Kurume's Moon Star (Thukihoshi) in 1960. Total area 4,300 square meters.

The author of this garden was the director and garden researcher of the National Nara Cultural Properties Research Institute at that time "Mori Osamu・森薀(1905 - 1988). The garden is divided into four main areas. Karesansui as the front yard first. There is a pine tree Karesansui Next . Lespedeza's linear topiary which has the role of zoning, and there is Chisen/池泉 as the main garden. The area inside the bamboo fence which is ahead of the bridge is the garden of Tea ceremony house "Roji/露地".

The pond has the shape of a kanji mind. The pond of the heart is popular in the Japanese garden. The island floats in the middle of the pond. The author of this pond garden tributes "Sakutei-ki/作庭記" and "Chojugiga/鳥獣戯画". When we cross two bridges across the island we reach the next Roji (the tea room garden). There is a small waterfall at the back of Roji. The water of the waterfall becomes ”Yarimizu/鑓水(a stream)” and pours into the pond. Is it a problem of water circulation in the pond? It is a pity that the green alga is floating on the surface of the water.

The fourth is "露地/Roji (tea room garden)". When walking on the pavement of the cobblestone stone leads to the seat for the guest to wait before entering the tea room. There are many stepping stones in Roji. And this Roji also has "Tsukiyama (artificial hill)" where large stones were arranged. Yarimizu (stream) flows near Tsukiyama. It is as rare as Roji is like a mountain backdrop.
