かって飫肥藩の上級藩士が居住していた地区の高台に飫肥石の石垣で整えた方形の平地に建てられた武家屋敷。１８００年代初頭の建築で、座敷の竿縁天井は床挿しで武家らしく潔い精神性と質実剛健を追求しつつも、床柱を中抜きにし、欄間に麻の葉の繊細な組子細工をあしらうなど、次の明治時代に踏襲された洒脱かつ凝った意匠がすでに見られ興味深い。飫肥藩上級家臣の典型的な住居の作り。略式ではあるが式台玄関の上の欄間は吹寄菱の大変格式高い設えとなっている。伊東家は代々家老職を務めていた。庭園は座観式であるが回遊もできる枯山水庭園で、屋敷の南東面に鍵型（L字型）につくられた縁側から庭を鑑賞できるよう、敷地の南と東面の石垣線上に盛土した同じく鍵型の築山に、石灯籠・石の反橋・枯滝石組み・枯流れ・飛石の園路などを配し、内角４５度の中心に主木の蘇鉄を植えている。また築山の急勾配の箇所には薄い板状の石で土を止める近代的な発想の土木技法を用いている。この庭園は築山の向こうの山並みを借景にしている。屋敷玄関の左の築地塀に庭へいたる門があり添えられたビャクシンが美しい。江戸時代飫肥藩の多くの武家屋敷でこのような枯山水庭が作られていた。江戸後期の南九州における上級武家屋敷庭園の様子をよく伝えている。敷地の一部はテニスコートになっており風情を損なっているが、勝手口脇の幾何学的に四角く仕立てたマキなどの庭木が楽しい。

2019年１月の時点で、この施設は見学料無料、無人で公開されていました。

A samurai residence built on a square flat land arranged with stone walls of Obi stone on a hill in the area where the senior feudal lord of the Obi domain lived. Built in the early 1800s, it is a typical residence for senior vassals of the Obi Domain. The Ito family has been in high-ranking positions for generations. The garden is a dry landscape garden that is a sitting style, but you can also walk around. From the front, thin stones that seem to be thick are lined up to stop the soil of the artificial hill, and stone lanterns, stone curve bridges, dry waterfall stones, dry streams, and stepping stone garden paths are arranged. The main tree, cycad, is planted in the center of the artificial hill at an internal angle of 45 degrees. In addition, the mountain range beyond the artificial hill is borrowed. There is a gate to the garden on the left wall of the entrance of the residence. In the Edo period, many samurai residences of the Obi clan had such dry landscape gardens. It conveys the state of the senior samurai residence garden in southern Kyushu in the late Edo period. A part of the site is a tennis court, which spoils the atmosphere, but the square pruned evergreen trees on the side of the mouth are fun.

As of January 2019, the facility was open to the public for free and unattended.
