Aso Oura-soh” Fukuoka-pref

Aso Oura-soh” Fukuoka-pref.

"Aso Ourasoh" Iizuka-cituy ,Fukuoka Prefecture

From the Meiji era to the Showa era, Iizuka City, Fukuoka Prefecture was one of the central cities in the Chikuho region that supported Asia's first modern industrial revolution in Japan with coal energy. The coal produced in Chikuho was also exported to Asia, the Industrial Revolution spread to the Far East, and the modernization of the Far East region was realized, and the infrastructure developed at that time became the economic foundation that continues to the present day. This Oura-soh is the residence of the Aso family, which was counted as one of the five major coal miners. The vast site around Oura-soh still houses the main residence of the Aso family. This Oura-soh, located in a section away from the main building, was built in 1924 as the residence of Taemon Aso, the uncle of Taro Aso, the former Prime Minister of Japan. Currently, "Oura-soh" is used as a salon for the Aso Zaibatsu Group. Passing through the main gate, you will be amazed at the large round topiary of Osmanthus fragrans, right in front of the approach that extends to the building. The entrance to the mansion is behind it. The architecture is a typical modern Japanese-style house, which is a complex mansion with multiple buildings connected. First of all, when you go up the entrance, a long corridor extends to the left and right. If you go to the left in this corridor, you will find many rooms in the living area. Also, if you go to the right, you will find an area that welcomes visitors. There is a very large Japanese-style room in the drawing room (Western-style room) and behind it. This very large Japanese-style building is the center of Oura-soh, and the garden seen from the side corridor with sliding glass shoji doors is very bright and open. In the garden, the western lawn that is often seen in modern Japanese-style houses after the Meiji era spreads, surrounding the well in the center, and the round pruned trees are combined like an object to form a unit. It is a group of main trees in the garden. The area around the lawn square is a natural slope. A thicket is created on the slope to create a naturalistic landscape. There is also a pond at the foot of the slope, but due to its small size it is not enough to call this garden the Chisenkaiyusgiki garden. The huge water basin bowl and stone lantern placed outside the side corridor of the large Japanese-style room are a masterpiece. Immediately to the left of the entrance to the garden is a groves of cedar and a very tall stone five-storied pagoda. If you look carefully, you will find the fine stone elements of a Japanese garden, but they are arranged so that they are not very noticeable, so the overall impression of the garden is Western. It will be open to the public (free of charge) for one week each in the spring of blue maple and the autumn of colored leaves. For telephone inquiries, please contact the Iizuka City Tourism Association.
