梅ケ谷津（うめがやつ）偕楽園は、平戸藩10代藩主、松浦熈（まつらひろむ）の別邸として作られました。平戸島南側の斜面の一画を利用して整備されています。敷地内には和紙の繊維をとるための梶の木の栽培場、窯業所、鉢植え盆栽の栽培所、棚田をオランダ式石垣で築く見本の展示場などが設けられ農業試験場の性格も持っており、クジラの油紙で畑を囲った小屋＝日本初のビニールハウスも作られていたそうです。また梅を直列に植栽した梅園は古くから西洋に門戸を開いた平戸らしい西洋式の庭園となっています。松浦熈は蹴鞠の愛好者で、蹴鞠場も設けられていました。現存する茶室は松浦熈の別邸として使用された当時のまま残されています。斜面を活かした三階建てで、三階に入口があり露地も三階に面しています。邸内は博物館として利用されており、殿様が使った部屋は生々しいほど昔のまま保存されています。大きく開かれた猪目の窓がトレードマークとなっています。邸内には様々な生活道具、蹴鞠で使った鞠、参勤交代の際に江戸で買い求めた歌川国貞などの浮世絵コレクション、また安土桃山時代から受け継がれた織部などの貴重な茶道具などが展示されていて驚かされます。また、茶室とともに海がのぞめる開放的な露地は、抹茶ではなく煎茶の作法にも適していたのかもしれません。庭の中心にそびえるモッコクの大木が枝を広げ、その足元に男性的な力強さを感じさせる庭石の配置が大名的な雰囲気を醸し出しとても印象的でした。客は斜面の上から石段を下に降りて露地に至り茶室にあがる趣向となっています。平戸ならではのヒラドツツジの植栽も。

Hirado Garden ②

A large garden created by Top of Samurai = Daimyo of Nagasaki Hirado Clan at the end of the Edo period. There was also a plantation to get the fibers used as raw materials for Japanese paper in the site. The garden left now is the garden of tea house "Roji". Two hundred years old Ternstroemia gymnanthera stretches branches in the center of this garden. Many stepping stones are placed rhythmically on the ground under the tree. There is a three-story tea house on the slope on the south side of the garden. See the sea from the tea room and garden. The tea house is now a museum. There are many things that you should see such as the tea bowl Oribe, a tea ceremony that Daimyo has used, and the collection of Ukiyoe from Edo souvenirs. And the room of Daimyo left as it was at that time is very real. It is old and damaged but it is worth watching.
