"Fukuryuan" Fukuoka Prefecture

A Japanese-style restaurant located in a residential area in the mountains of Tobata Ward, Kitakyushu City. You can enjoy authentic sukiya architecture and gardens built half a century ago.

The garden is designed to make good use of the slope, with a small house that doubles as a teahouse and a flat garden on the upper level, and the main house on the lower level. In the narrow space next to it is a small pond and stream, and white sand is spread around the stepping stones along the stream.

The slope between the upper and lower gardens is filled with Satsuki azaleas trimmed into various shapes, and among them are large and small garden stones and stonework of a dry waterfall, creating a diverse landscape.

It is a pleasure to be able to actually stroll through the garden by following the stone steps and stepping stones.

The architecture is also worth seeing, with lavish and prestigious Sukiya architecture, including Migakimaruta cedar beams over 20 meters long, Ajiro ceilings, and Ktoh windows. There is also the rare Ryureiseki tea room, where tea ceremonies are held with chairs and tables covered with glass doors.
