"Zenshoji Temple" Yamaguchi Prefecture

Zenshoji was originally a temple called Saihoji, and was the family temple of Naito Okimori (1490-1554), who was introduced to the Ouchi clan that ruled Yamaguchi when Francisco Xavier visited Yamaguchi.

Excavations were conducted between 2005 and 2006, and it was discovered that the garden was created before the late Muromachi period (1467).

There is a legend that this garden was created by Sesshu (1420-1506), and this possibility has become a reality.

Unfortunately, the pond in the current garden has shrunk in size by about half since it was first created, and it has changed considerably from what it once looked like. However, many of the scenic stones on the slope of the mountain behind the pond were originally there, giving us a glimpse of what they once looked like. Chisen kansho shiki garden.
