今なおダイナミックに活動を続けるカルデラ火山阿蘇の雄大な自然風景に溶け込むような庭。さながら噴火口から飛ばされてきたかと思わせるような巨石が回廊の途中に置かれ人々を驚かせる。黒い立石が林のように並ぶ様子は環状列石のような古代の文化を思わせ、またドルメンのような石屋の造形は太古の昔の阿蘇の人々の暮らしを想起させる。火山と連動する原始的な躍動にみなぎる庭だが、縁がギザギザの薄い岩を何枚も重ね合わせて塊とするメソッドは彫刻的で繊細そしてコンテンポラリーアート的。熊本阿蘇の風土に深く根ざしながらも大変モダンで現代的な庭といえる。熊本市在住の庭師「徳永新助(1948年~)の作品。2002年作庭。

"Hinoyama Onsen Arden Hotel Aso" Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture

A garden that blends into the majestic natural scenery of the caldera volcano Aso, which is still dynamically active. A huge rock that looks as if it was thrown from the crater is placed in the middle of the corridor, surprising visitors. The black standing stones lined up like a forest are reminiscent of ancient cultures such as stone circles, and the dolmen-like structure of the stonework evokes the lives of the Aso people in ancient times. The garden is full of primitive dynamism linked to the volcano, but the method of forming a mass by stacking thin rocks with jagged edges is very delicate and modern. Either way, it can be said to be a garden deeply rooted in the climate of Aso, Kumamoto. This is the work of Tokunaga Shinsuke (1948-), a gardener living in Kumamoto City. The garden was created in 2002.
