"Former Noda Family Residence" Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture

The first samurai residence after entering the castle town from the northwest entrance of Central Park, the center of Hagi tourism. It was open to the public at the Hagi Open Garden, but is now open irregularly. The building is a wooden one-story building with a hipped roof and tiled roof. The gate facing the road and the earthen wall that leads to it are in good condition. The garden built on the south side of the main room has also been preserved, and it well conveys the appearance of a samurai residence from the Edo period.

The garden is small but unique, with the garyu (sleeping dragon)pine tree in the center likened to a ship and the square topiary on the side of the earthen wall likened to a sail, which is impressive and creative. Even when the garden is closed, you can see the square trimmings of the earthen wall that resemble sails, so be sure to check it out.
