「八景水谷公園」熊本県熊本市

第五代肥後藩主細川綱利が、湧き出る清泉を愛して茶亭を造り、古代中国の瀟湘八景に見立てて八景を選んだことが公園の始まり。豊富な湧水量を誇り、大正13年（1924年）、熊本市の上水道が敷設されてからはその水源として利用されている。園内には4つの井戸があり、そこで取水された地下水は市の中心部へ送られている。公園にはソメイヨシノ200本が植えられ、周囲を流れる小川には豊かな水に育まれた水生動物が多く生息。公園奥の反り橋がかかる丸池のあたりに池泉庭園の名残をとどめている。

Hakenomiya Park" Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture

The park was founded when the fifth lord of Higo, Hosokawa Tsunatoshi, loved the clear spring water and built a teahouse there, choosing the eight scenic spots as one of the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang. The park boasts an abundant supply of spring water, and has been used as a water source since the construction of the Kumamoto City waterworks in 1924. There are four wells in the park, and the groundwater taken from these wells is sent to the center of the city. 200 Somei-yoshino cherry trees are planted in the park, and many aquatic animals live in the streams that flow around it, nurtured by the abundant water. Remnants of the pond garden remain around the round pond, with its curved bridge at the back of the park.
