「橋口氏庭園」 宮崎県日向市

重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に指定されている日向市美々津の町並み、その一画に橋口氏庭園はあります。橋口氏の先祖は、中世に美々津へ来た修験者と伝えられ、当地に真言宗長福寺を開山。現在の橋口家はその長福寺跡に建っており、主屋の北に設けられた座敷と、切り立つ崖の間の小さな平地に庭園があります。この庭園は、長福寺の本山にあたる京都醍醐寺の三宝院庭園を模倣したとも言われるもので、安土桃山時代に造園されたと伝わる鑑賞式の池泉庭園です。一応自由に見学して良いことになっているようですが橋口家は現在も庭の隣に居住しておられるので節度を守って静かに見学してください。

"Hashiguchi Family Garden" Miyazaki Prefecture

The Hashiguchi Family Garden is located in a section of the townscape of Mimitsu, which is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It is said that the ancestors of the Hashiguchi Family were ascetics who came to Mimitsu in the Middle Ages and founded the Shingon sect Chofukuji Temple here. The current Hashiguchi Family is built on the site of Chofukuji Temple, and there is a sitting room set up north of the main house and a garden on a small flat area between the steep cliffs. This garden is an ornamental pond garden that is said to have been landscaped during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. It seems that you are free to visit the garden, but the Hashiguchi Family still lives next to it, so please visit quietly and with discretion.
