「鰐鳴八幡宮」　 山口県山口市

平安時代中期、地元の人々により宇佐から勧請された八幡宮。鰐石と呼ばれる山口の港から上陸あとは陸路となったとき、それまで神様を慕い従ってきた鰐(当時の海上生活者)は、ここで鳴(泣)いて別れを惜しんだといい、その故事により「鰐鳴八幡宮」と呼ばれるように。1686年頃の御本殿と1791年建立の楼門形式の拝殿はとても立派で一見の価値ありです。楼門の前には日本庭園の設えの池があります。この八幡宮の参道には２００ｍにもおよぶ桜の並木道があり春には桜のトンネルに。その他、夏はオニユリ、秋は彼岸花の名所としても知られています。

In the mid-Heian period, the local people crossed the sea to create a Hachiman Shrine from Usa Hachiman Shrine in Oita Prefecture. When they landed at the port of Yamaguchi and began the rest of their journey overland, it is said that the Wani (those who lived on the sea at the time) who had followed the gods until then cried here to say goodbye, and from this story, the shrine came to be called "Waninaki Hachiman Shrine". The main hall built around 1686 and the worship hall in the form of a tower gate built in 1791 are very impressive and worth seeing. In front of the tower gate is a pond set up as a Japanese garden. The approach to this Hachiman Shrine is lined with cherry blossoms that stretch for 200 meters, creating a tunnel of cherry blossoms in spring. It is also known as a famous spot for tiger lilies in summer and red spider lilies in autumn.
