「萩城 東園」」山口県萩市

萩城「東園（とうえん）」は本丸の東北方向に位置する二の丸内につくられた池泉回遊式庭園で、かっては池の側に御茶屋や園を見渡せる高楼建築も建てられていました。この東園は６代藩主・毛利宗広（1717~1751)が整備をはじめ７代藩主・毛利重就（しげなり）に引き継がれ藩主二代にわたって整備された大名庭園です。残念なことに現在では廃墟のような状態ですが想像力で往時を偲ぶことはできるでしょう。

Hagi Castle's "East Garden" is a pond-style garden built in the Ninomaru, located northeast of the main citadel of Hagi Castle. At one time, a teahouse and a tall building overlooking the garden were built beside the pond. This garden was started by the 6th feudal lord, Mori Munehiro (1717-1751), and was taken over by the 7th feudal lord, Mori Shigenari, making it a feudal lord's garden that was maintained over two generations of feudal lords. Unfortunately, it is now in ruins, but you can use your imagination to reminisce about what it was like in the past.
