「人吉旅館」 熊本県人吉市

旅館創業時から残る国指定登録文化財の建物に囲まれた中庭があります。作庭は１９３０年。ロビーや廊下の窓越しに眺めることができる鑑賞式の池泉庭園で、優雅な曲水風の流れが注ぐ池は心字をモチーフにしています。庭の中には温泉旅館ならではの温泉の祠が祀られて、祠の前の一回り大きな飛び石や短冊形の切石が聖域の格調を高め、祠をのせる石組みは単なる台座にとどまらず岩山の景として庭と一体の風情を作り出しています。さらに建物の松皮菱の形をした印象的な窓も庭のワンポイントとして絶大な効果をもたらしています。

人吉旅館は令和２年７月の豪雨で一階天井まで浸水し泥に埋まりましたが、現在着々と復興中で２０２１年から2階のみで営業、中庭の泥も綺麗に取り除かれています。一日でも早く水害前の輝きを取り戻す日が来るといいですね。

There is a courtyard surrounded by buildings that are registered as national cultural properties and remain from the time the inn was founded. The garden was created in 1930. It is an ornamental pond garden that can be viewed from the windows of the lobby and corridors, and the pond with its graceful curved water flow is based on the character heart. In the garden, a hot spring shrine unique to hot spring inns is enshrined, and the large stepping stones and rectangular cut stones in front of the shrine enhance the dignity of the sacred area, and the stonework on which the shrine is placed is not just a pedestal but creates an atmosphere that is integrated with the garden as a rocky mountain view. In addition, the impressive window in the shape of a pine bark diamond of the building also has a tremendous effect as a focal point of the garden.

Hitoyoshi Ryokan was flooded up to the ceiling of the first floor and buried in mud due to the heavy rains in July 2020, but is currently steadily recovering and will be open only on the second floor from 2021, and the mud in the courtyard has been cleaned away. We hope that the day will come when it will regain its pre-flood brilliance as soon as possible.
