"Hagi Castle, Hananoe Teahouse, and Nashibake Family Teahouse" Hagi city, Yamaguchi pref.

Two historic teahouses have been relocated and preserved in Shizuki Park, the ruins of Hagi Castle.

One is the thatched-roof "Hananoe Teahouse," which the 13th feudal lord, Mori Takachika, established in the Hanae Palace along the Hashimoto River in the Sannomaru area of Hagi Castle. It is said that Takachika and his vassals discussed policy in this teahouse, entrusting it to tea ceremonies. After the Meiji Restoration, it went through many twists and turns and was moved to its current location within Hagi Castle with the passion of local volunteers.

The other is the "Nashibake Family Teahouse." This is the villa teahouse of the Nashibake family of the Hagi domain, and is also known as the "soot-cleaning teahouse" because the feudal lord rested there during the year-end soot-cleaning of Hagi Castle. The exterior is covered with tiles, while the interior is an eight-tatami room, the style of which was preferred by Sen Soza (Joshinsai), the seventh head of the Omotesenke school, and is known as the Kagetsuro style teahouse from the mid-Edo period.

The location where these two teahouses were moved to was where the "Okushoin" (inner study) where the feudal lord lived once stood. Beside the teahouse remains a garden that is thought to have been attached to the Okushoin. The pond in the garden is now dry, but the banks are sturdy, so it is assumed that it was once a pond-filled stroll-style garden. Atop the artificial hill stands a standing stone that gives a majestic impression, befitting a feudal lord's garden, and there is also a strangely shaped rock that looks like a crushed bell, which is somewhat humorous. Around the teahouse are landscape stones and stone lanterns that are thought to have once been part of the garden, evoking times of the past.
