「東陽町石橋公園」熊本県八代市

八代市東陽町は江戸後期に通潤橋をはじめ九州に多くの石橋アーチ橋を架けた石工集団「種山石工」の本拠地です。その橋の一つ「重見橋」を移設し、周囲に落ち着きのある日本庭園を配して作られたのが「東陽町石橋公園」です。周囲の「かたらい広場」には複合遊具施設「ジンジャーの森」が設置されています。近くに種山石工の博物館である石匠館もありますので観光で寄る価値が十分にある場所です。皆さんも是非どうぞ。

"Toyocho Ishibashi Park" Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture

Toyocho, Yatsushiro City, is the home base of the "Taneyama Stone Masons," a group of stonemasons who built many stone arch bridges in Kyushu, including the Tsujun Bridge, in the late Edo period. "Toyocho Ishibashi Park" was created by relocating one of those bridges, "Shigemi Bridge," and surrounding it with a tranquil Japanese pond garden. The surrounding "Katarai Square" is home to a complex playground called "Ginger Forest." There is also Sekisyokan, a museum of Taneyama stonemasons, nearby, so it is well worth a visit.
