「的石御茶屋跡」 熊本県阿蘇市

江戸時代、熊本城を出発した参勤交代の一行が昼食をとるため休息した屋敷跡と庭園。もともと小糸家の屋敷であったが細川のお殿様が休みどころとして気に入り1697年に小糸家が御茶屋の当主に任命され現在でも１４代目が在住している。2016年の熊本地震で大きな被害を受け江戸時代から残された御茶屋の建物は失われたが庭園だけは残されている。庭園は湧水をふんだんに使った自然主義的な池泉庭園ですぐとなりの隼鷹天満宮の湧水池とつながっている。勝海舟もここを訪れ湧水の美しさを褒め称えたとか。

"Matoishi Ochaya Site" Aso City, Kumamoto Prefecture

The remains of the mansion and garden where, during the Edo period, daimyo's alternate attendance corps would rest for lunch after leaving Kumamoto Castle. Originally the residence of the Koito family, the Hosokawa lord liked it as a place to rest, and in 1697 the Koito family was appointed head of the Ochaya, with the 14th generation still living there today. The Ochaya building, which was left over from the Edo period, was lost due to major damage in the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, but the garden remains. The garden is a naturalistic pond garden that makes generous use of spring water, and is connected to the spring water pond of the nearby Junyo Tenmangu Shrine.
